The PAIR Study

The PAIR Study is currently paused for enrollment, but will resume in the coming months.

Purpose of the study:

The purpose of the PAIR Study is to learn more about how moms and their newborn infants interact with one another in their home environment. We also aim to learn more about the neural activity underlying mother-infant interactions.

Qualifications:

1. Infant enrolled in the study less than 4.5 months old at time of enrollment

2. Mother enrolled in the study is the biological mother of the infant

3. Mother enrolled in the study is between the ages of 18 and 45 years old at time of enrollment

What to expect:

Eligible participants will complete 3 structured visits over the course of 6 months, during which members our team will come to visit them in their place of residence. Participants will complete these visits when the infant enrolled in the study is approximately 3 months old, 6 months old, and 9 months old. Each home visit will consist of a clinical interview portion, where mothers will be asked questions about the health history of themselves and their infants. Mothers and infants will also complete a play task together while wearing NIRS caps, which are similar to swim caps. NIRS measures brain response via infrared light, and is a painless, safe, and non-invasive form of neuroimaging. Mothers will complete 7 online questionnaires throughout the study, which will ask questions about themselves and their infants. Participants will be financially compensated for their participation in the PAIR Study.
